A Place To Grow

Welcome to Year 2 with Mrs Markus, Miss Kyle and Miss Thomas

LSAs - Miss Morris, Mrs Fisher and Mr Butt.

2HK, 2KM, 2BT

In Year 2, we have continued with our Splash topic. The children will investigate life at sea and how vital water is to humans and plants.

In Topic, the children will be exploring different bodies of water, discuss new vocabulary linked to physical features and identify the seven continents and oceans.

In English, we are innovating the traditional tale of 'Rumplestiltskin' - Still fairly tricky for the children to pronounce but they're getting there!

In Maths, we will recap the four operations.

+      -      x      =

The children will also apply their skills in problem solving, data handling and understanding shape.

What a fab job our Year 2s have done in their SATS tests. Everyone has worked incredibly hard and kept each other going all week. We are so super proud for doing your best.

The topic this term is Splash! We can't wait to explore water - Let's hope the sun shines! The children have also been outside planting with Ricky to improve the flower beds and grow some healthy treats like strawberries, rhubarb and tomatoes! Can't wait to try them.

In Year 2, we have been concentrating on the SATS tests which are fast-approaching. Our children have been preparing for the upcoming SATS tests in Reading, Maths, Grammar and Spelling. We are absolutely thrilled with their attitude to learning.

Florence Nightingale

Year 2 have been writing instructions on 'How to Catch a Frog'. We have come up with some ingenious ideas and have been acting out our ideas. This has not been tried and tested on a real frog and no animals were hurt in this learning!

Reading Karate

Miss Bowler launched 'Reading Karate' just two weeks ago and already there are many children across the school who are reading more and more in school and at home.

We would like to say a massive congratulations to children in Year 2 who have already received their white Reading band. That's 20 reads! Well done!

Learning at home is also a crucial part of your child's learning journey.

We would like to say a huge thank you for your continued support in helping your child learn at home.

Children in year 2 are given weekly spellings and a piece of work related to the week's learning every Friday and then collected in on a Wednesday.

Countries & Cultures

As part of our new topic, we will be learning some French phrases and vocabulary with Miss Thomas.

Have a go speaking French at home!

Bonjour (bonjor) - Hello

Bonsoir  (bonswar)  - Good evening

Au revoir (o-revwar) - Goodbye

Salut - (-saloo-) Hello

Je m'appelle - My name is

Countries and Cultures

Welcome to another fabulous term for Year 2.

Year 2 children are continuing to work in small class sizes allowing us to spend more time with children individually in order to effectively support and challenge their learning. The children should have their Reading Record, reading book and PE kit daily. We are really excited to be using a new reading scheme, please continue to encourage the children to read at home so that they can make their way up the Reading Karate!

Houses and Homes

WOW another fantastic term awaits! This term the children will focus on houses, big and small, past and present. Who knows what we might uncover. Prepare to be Historians!

Year 2 have been learning about traditional Japanese poetry, Haiku. We have been learning to count the syllables in different words including our names, give it a go at home! How many syllables are in your name? What words can you find that have more than 1 syllable? We hope you all have a Happy Christmas!

Carnival of Animals

The Year 2 team are excited to announce that Term 1's topic is all about African Animals. We can't wait to discover what the children know and immerse ourselves in everything amazing about the animals.

This term the children have settled into Year 2 really well. They are making positive relationships and enjoy writing stories and counting in steps.
